yummy honey mustard :0)
I did it. Sort of. I made good chicken. It doesn't look like much but I made some pretty tasty honey mustard baked chicken! And a salad! But there's no picture.
So I used honey (duh), mustard (duh), basil, parsley and paprika for the sauce. Pretty clever huh? And then all I did was cut up the meat, smear some of the sauce on, throw it in the oven and voila.... dinner is served!
And the best part? My boyfriend ate all of it.

i made some kebobs. kind of.
So I was feeling extra adventurous and tried to make some black bean sirloin kebobs with some veggies and I thought it would go well. The time allotted for this was 10 minutes prep and about 15 minutes to cook! Wow, that's not bad I thought. I went to the store at around 6 assuming I would be out of there quickly. I was wrong. Six at night is the worst time to go to Von's. Everyone else is there buying their ingredients along with me. By the time I get home it's 6:40. Okay, I'll finish dinner at around 7! Not too bad.
Prepping was work, a lot of work. I had to wash and cut the bell peppers and zucchini, clean and cut the meat, make the black bean sauce and wash rice. That took me, oh, half an hour! Haha, so I finally go to assembling the kebobs and my kebob sticks broke. Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, CHEAP!
So now I'm making a stirfry. I figured, just throw everything in there. So I did. Somehow the black bean sauce didn't quite stick to the meat as I hoped it would and was left tasting a bit... meaty? I don't know how to describe it, but the meat tasted like meat, with no black bean sauce. The veggies were good though. And the rice! Oh how perfect the rice was! Nice and sticky, just how my mom makes it! So I ate the veggies and rice and my poor boyfriend ate the mangled meat.
So I took a small step towards becoming a better cook, and by no means am I a good cook. I'm just learning and teaching myself how to wash, cut and cook.

oh my. it's grilled chicken
I realize that when I get married I should be able to cook for my family. At the rate I'm going I'm not going to be able to get married for a LONG time.
I have to say though, I've improved in the last year. But I'm not cooking a ridiculous pot roast or a five course meal. I'm cooking chicken. Chicken that's grilled, baked, fried and whatever else you can do to chicken. I've decided, I need to move from chicken.
My boyfriend really hates chicken at this point. I feel bad for him. I don't think he gets excited when he hears me say, "I'm cooking dinner!" Even though I'm super ecstatic and can't wait to heat up the kitchen, I know he's dreading another chicken concoction.
